13th August 2026 ~ Memorial Update: – The lava stone panel has been safely received from France and the metal frame is on order.

Captain Richard Westmacott MC was the first British Soldier to be posthumously awarded the Military Cross for his courageous actions from February to April 1980. Westmacott’s leadership in these high-risk missions involved direct confrontations with armed IRA members, showcasing repeated acts of gallantry under fire.
Sadly Killed in Action, Belfast 2nd May 1980 ~ Aged 28.
We are now raising funds to establish this memorial in the Grove with the permission of his family who provided the picture above and the National Memorial Arboretum.
The A3 landscape memorial panel will be made from Lava Stone and enamelled with a permanent glaze as per the picture. It will be set on a metal frame and placed in the Special Air Service gardens in the Grove.
