Moussey – The Cross of Lorraine

The Cross of Lorraine was the symbol of Resistance in France during World War Two. This Cross was designed by the Blacksmith Bromley O’hare. The steel structure has three bars throughout and these represent the French National Motto: –

Liberte ~Egalite ~ Fraternite.

The Colour is Traffic Light Red similar to the Cross on many French Flags during WW2 and that many still do at times of Remembrance. All parts of the Cross were hand-forged, with a stainless steel base, crossbar connections and all fittings.

The Cross is set in a small copse of Pine Trees that originally came from a Forest Guards Cottage near Moussey. Around the Cross we have planted Broom and Blue Blossom (Ceanothus).
